Ok, true, November is a long way away. It would be a bit presumptuous to celebrate an electoral victory just yet. But I think it’s important that we celebrate our Democratic ideals at every step in this journey.
Our shared vision for a just and equitable society, with a high value placed on education is worth fighting for. One way we do that is celebrating. We should stand proud of what we see as possible and work diligently to ensure it becomes a reality for our children and for our children’s children.
On Wednesday night, 6-8pm at Castle Street Kitchen we are celebrating these values at a kickoff for my campaign. I hope you can come and add your voice to the chorus of parents, educators, elected officials and citizens who are concerned with things taking place in our schools today, like:
Whitewashing of history—Policy 7205 will penalize teachers and staff for teaching or discussing present or historic inequities in our society. Our future leaders can’t correct what they never learned.
Politicization of our Board—The agenda of the extreme right wing, like banning books and the removal of equity from our policies, not only weakens our students’ education, but it also puts our most vulnerable students at risk and erodes the morale of our educators.
Lack of Oversight—With all the time and distraction of their politicking, the Board has failed to perform their primary job, which is holding our Superintendent accountable for his budget, his methodology, and his results.
I need your help to elect me and other Democrats to the board so that we can stand for our shared values, protect our students and teachers, bring proper fiscal management back to our schools, and close the literacy gaps.
Drop in and say hello on Wednesday evening 6-8pm at Castle Street Kitchen. Food and drinks are available. We’ll hear from Representative Deb Butler and Commissioners Zapple and Barfield, as well as yours truly.
Until I see you,
Tim
