We're off and running!
As we've been knocking on doors, talking with voters, we've been getting great responses to our message of creating safe learning environments for our students--ALL our students. That we stand for our teachers and staff to be supported and protected from punitive board policies. And our insistence that our ever-dwindling funding be spent in classrooms, not backrooms.
We've been concerned that the public might not know about what's happening in our schools, but we're finding that you do know, and you're not happy about it!
Your support for our campaign has been so encouraging. It takes a lot of energy and will and determination. And let's face it, it also takes a lot of money. In the last School Board election, the top vote getter raised over $85,000.
February 17--just 8 days from today--is the deadline for our first quarter campaign filing. We are counting on grassroots donors like yourself to raise the hefty amount of money necessary for us to win in November.
WILL YOU PLEASE DONATE WHAT YOU CAN TODAY?
Every little bit helps.
Our financial filings show our opponents and those sitting on the fence that we are serious about winning this race. A robust showing of contributions invite more people to get on board. It's the wind in our sails early on that will put us on the map. This is a good example of the old adage, "Nothing succeeds like success."
------
The School Board, this week, approved the horrendous Policy 7205 which bans educators from teaching or discussing certain topics--such as slavery, women's suffrage, January 6, 2021, or the struggles that exist today for equity in our society. Because of the intentionally vague language, teachers are forced to self-censor a wide array of subjects in order to protect their jobs.
The Board passed this policy despite considerable outcry from the public. Student Voices, an amazing group of informed and concerned students have also spoken up against policy 7205, stating they want and need to be taught and to discuss important social issues.
A similar policy was struck down in Federal Court in Florida. And it is almost certain this board will be sued over 7205, causing precious and diminishing funding to be wasted on defending this terrible piece of politicking.
------
There has never been a more important juncture for citizens to stand up against the tyranny of this school board. The phrase, "If you're not angry, you're not paying attention," is apt here.
Please help us today so we can put adults on the School Board and get back to supporting the students and teachers of the district.
Until I see you,
Tim
